Lethrinus haematopterus (English spelling)
A marine fish of the family Ophiopogonidae in the order Perciformes (illustration). Also known as Tamami. A type of "bream-like fish," it has a body shape similar to that of bream, but differs in that its snout is slightly protruding and it has a row of molar-like conical teeth on both sides of its jaws. It is found in areas south of central Japan, the western Pacific Ocean, and Australia. It has many local names, such as Kuchinaj in Okinawa, Kuchimi in Kochi, Shirodai in Kagoshima, and Tamame in Wakayama. In many areas, it is called Kuchibi or Kuchibidai because the inside of its mouth is bright red.
