Abbreviation: CB. This is a radio frequency band for general citizens, but it often refers to citizen band radio. Citizen radio was institutionalized in Japan in 1961, but with the introduction of personal radio, a license was no longer required in 1983 for radio equipment with a technical standards conformity certification mark. The 27MHz band uses radio waves with a power of 0.5W, so the range is limited to 1-2km in urban areas, 4-5km in suburban areas, and 10km at sea. A portable radio is used to alternate between sending and receiving, but because eight frequencies within the band are shared, interference increases as the communication distance becomes longer, making reliable communication difficult.
