Netherlands Trading Company (English: Nederlandsche Handel‐Maatschappij)

After the Napoleonic Wars, Java and other former East Indies colonies were returned to the Netherlands, and a joint stock company was established in 1824 under the initiative of King William I with the aim of ensuring that this colonial trade was in Dutch hands in place of the abolished East India Company. The company gradually regained colonial trade while competing with Britain, and in particular, when the forced cultivation system for sugar, coffee, indigo, etc. was implemented in Java from 1834, the company was responsible for the export and sale of these colonial products to Europe, and at the same time, by purchasing textile products for the colonies, it contributed to the development of the cotton industry in the Twente region (eastern Netherlands).

ナポレオン戦争後，ジャワ島をはじめとする旧東インド植民地はオランダに返還されたが，この植民地貿易を，廃止された東インド会社に代わってオランダの手に確保する目的で，国王ウィレム1世のイニシアティブの下に1824年設立された株式会社。同社はイギリスと競争しながら植民地貿易をしだいに取り戻し，とりわけ34年からジャワ島で砂糖，コーヒー，アイなどの強制栽培制度が実施されると，これら植民地物産のヨーロッパへの輸出･販売を担当し，他方，植民地向け繊維品の買付けを通じて，トウェンテ地方(オランダ東部)の綿工業の育成に貢献した。
