German theologian. After studying Oriental languages, he was influenced by the ideas of J. A. Neander and turned to theology. He became a professor at the universities of Berlin (1820-26) and Halle (26). He was a representative of reconciliation theology and made great efforts in the movement to awaken faith in Germany. He also published Bible commentaries with edifying intent. His main work is "The Book of the Sünde and the Versöhner, or the Wahre Weihe des Zweiflers" (23).

ドイツの神学者。東洋語を学んだのち，特に J.A.W.ネアンダーの思想の影響を受けて神学に転じ，ベルリン (1820～26) ，ハレ (26) 各大学の教授をつとめる。調停神学の代表者であり，ドイツにおける信仰覚醒運動に尽力した。また教化的意図をもった聖書注解を出版した。主著"Die Lehre von der Sünde und dem Versöhner，oder die wahre Weihe des Zweiflers" (23)。
