...Known for its clear and functional design and urban planning for high-density areas. Rockefeller II, who aimed to create a "city within a city," commissioned the design by Wallace Kirkman Harrison (1895-1981) and others, and it was completed in 1947 after 16 years of work, around the time of the Great Depression. Thirteen buildings, clad in limestone and with a uniform exterior, are lined up on three sides of a long, narrow plaza, forming a harmonious group of buildings.
