Tomo no Kowamine

Japanese:
Tomo no Kowamine

Date of birth and death unknown. An official in the early Heian period. He served as a sword attendant at the Togubo. In July 842 (Jowa 9), he was arrested and exiled to Oki for plotting to support Crown Prince Tsunesada along with Tachibana Hayanari and others. This incident is known as the Jowa Incident, but its origins lie in a few days before the death of Emperor Saga, when Takemine came to Prince Abo, who was the Danjo-no-in, and said that if Emperor Saga died, a national uprising would surely break out. However, the truth behind the Jowa Incident was that it was a plot by Fujiwara Yoshifusa to depose the Crown Prince, Prince Tsunesada, and install Prince Michiyasu, the son of Yoshifusa's younger sister, Junshi, as Crown Prince, in order to establish the power of Yoshifusa's faction; Takemine was one of the victims of this political process.
