A genus in the Brassicaceae family (APG classification: Brassicaceae). Also called Magaribana. A cold-resistant annual or perennial herb. About 40 species are found from Western Asia to Southern Europe and North Africa. The most commonly cultivated annual species are I. amara L. and I. umbellata L.; the former is 15-20 cm tall, blooms in short spikes of dense white cross-shaped flowers from April to May, and has a fragrant scent. The latter is 10-15 cm tall, branches well, and grows bushy, blooming in clusters of red, pink, brownish purple, and white cross-shaped flowers from April to May. Both species are treated as autumn-sown annuals and are good for edging flower beds and as cut flowers. The perennial Iberis sempervirens L. is cultivated, with a height of 15-20cm, and in May, many small white flowers bloom in clusters at the ends of its well-branched branches. It is often sown in spring to border rock gardens and flower beds, and blooms from the following spring. [Somin Yanagi November 13, 2020] Perennial Iberis sempervirens.
