Iberian schematic art

Japanese: イベリア図式美術 - イベリアずしきびじゅつ（英語表記）Iberian schematic art

A general term for rock paintings from the Neolithic and Bronze Age, found widely throughout the Iberian Peninsula. Although it follows Levantine art in terms of time, it has a different origin. It is so named because many of the figures are highly schematic and abstract. Human figures in particular are extremely simplified and stylized, with some appearing as thin wire figures or hourglass shapes made up of two triangles joined at their apexes. Animal figures such as deer, cranes, storks, and turtles are also reduced to simple lines. Symbolic representations of the sun and figures combining the sun and humans are also found, suggesting that this art was linked to sun worship.

イベリア半島全体に広く分布する，新石器時代および青銅器時代の岩面画の総称。時代的にはレバント美術の後に続くが，起源は異なる。形象の多くが著しく図式化，抽象化されているため，この名がある。とくに人物像は極端に単純化，様式化され，細い針金状，あるいは二つの三角形を頂点で接合した砂時計形のものも見られる。動物像も，鹿，ツル，コウノトリ，カメなどが単純な線に還元される。また，太陽の象徴的表現，太陽と人物を組み合わせた形象が認められ，この美術には太陽崇拝が関連していたと考えられる。
