Kuronoseto

Japanese: 黒ノ瀬戸 - くろのせと

A strait between Kuronohama and Nagashima in the northwest of Akune City, Kagoshima Prefecture, that connects the East China Sea and the Yatsushiro Sea. It is also written as Kuronoseto or Kuroseto. It is famous for its fast currents due to its narrow width of only 350m. It is a beautiful scenic spot and is included in the Akune Natural Park. In the past, a prefectural ferry ran through the strait, but the Kuronoseto Bridge was completed in 1974. There is a bus service from Orikuchi Station on the Kagoshima Main Line. [Hattori Nobuhiko]
