A rest area located on a major road in an area far from urban areas. Equipped with restaurants and souvenir shops, it serves as a place for people to rest and eat when traveling relatively long distances by car. With the development of road networks and the increasing popularity of private cars from the 1960s onwards, rest areas have been opened all over the country. Parking lots are provided adjacent to the road, making it easy for cars to enter and exit. Many of these are large facilities that can accommodate several large tourist buses. In recent years, some facilities have been actively holding local product exhibitions and providing tourist information, and they have also become information bases for areas along major roads.
