Gorgon - Gorgon (English spelling)

(1) A monster from Greek mythology. It refers to the three daughters of Phorcys and Ceto, Stheno, Euryale, and Medusa. All of them had hideous faces, snake hair, boar tusks, bronze hands, golden wings, and magical eyes that could turn anyone who looked at their faces to stone. Medusa was the only one of the three who was not immortal, so when Perseus cut off her head, the winged horse Pegasus and Chrysaor were born from it, which is said to be the fruit of her love with Poseidon. Medusa's head became an ornament on the shield of Athena, and her blood was used by Asclepius as both a medicine to revive life and a poison to take life. In general, the head of the Gorgon was often painted on weapons, castle walls, etc. as a symbol of protection.

(2) One of the wives of Aegyptus, who is famous for giving the name Egypt and for having 50 sons.
