Japanese Social Theory

Japanese: 日本社会論 - にほんしゃかいろん

Modern Japan is one of the most highly industrialized developed countries. It has also become highly urbanized, with around 90 million people, or three-quarters of the total population, living in cities. Although the country is small, it has a well-organized administrative system and well-developed transportation and communication systems. Despite being a resource-poor country, it made a remarkable recovery after World War II and achieved rapid economic growth thereafter, now accounting for around 10% of the world's gross national product (GNP). Many people have a middle-class mentality, and the average life expectancy has also increased significantly.

現代の日本は，高度に産業化された先進国の一つに属している。都市化も著しく，全人口の4分の3に当たる9000万ほどの人たちが〈市〉に住んでいる。狭い国土であるが，整備された行政組織があり，交通や通信のシステムも発達している。低資源国であるにもかかわらず，第2次大戦後の復旧は目覚ましく，その後において急速な経済成長を達成し，現在では世界の国民総生産(GNP)の約10％を占めるに至った。中流意識をもつ人が多く，平均寿命の伸びも著しい。
