Leader of a messianic religious movement in the former Belgian Congo (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo). After receiving his education at the Baptist Church, he worked as a carpenter in Leopoldville (now Kinshasa), but in the spring of 1921, he received a divine revelation and returned to his hometown of Nkamba, where he founded the Kimbangu sect, which combined the indigenous beliefs of the Kongo people with Christianity, and attracted many followers as a prophet and "savior of the black people." Among Kimbangu sect followers, a prophecy was soon circulated that on October 21, 1921, fire would fall from the sky and destroy the white race, and movements against tax payment and forced farming intensified.

旧ベルギー領コンゴ(現，コンゴ民主共和国)のメシア的宗教運動指導者。バプティスト教会で教育を受けたのち，レオポルドビル(現，キンシャサ)で大工をしていたが，1921年春，神の啓示により故郷ヌカンバへ帰り，コンゴ族の土着信仰とキリスト教を融合させたキンバンギ宗を起こし，予言者および〈黒人の救世主〉として多数の信者を集めた。キンバンギ宗の信者たちの間には，やがて，21年10月21日には天から降る火によって白人が打ち滅ぼされるという予言が流布され，また納税拒否や強制栽培反対の運動が高まった。
