A city in central Tokyo. It was incorporated as a city in 1958. It is served by the JR Chuo Line and the Seibu Tamagawa Line. It was once a farming village in Musashino, but after the Great Kanto Earthquake, Musashi-Koganei Station was opened on the Chuo Line in 1926, and it developed into a residential area, especially after World War II. It is home to Tokyo Gakugei University, the Faculty of Engineering at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, and the Faculty of Engineering at Hosei University, and has become a university town on a par with the neighboring city of Kunitachi to the south. It is home to the Koganei Bank (a scenic spot) of the Tamagawa Aqueduct, famous for its cherry blossoms, Koganei Park, and the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum. It has an area of 11.30 km2 .
