Turkish poet and man of letters. Born into a family of scholars in Istanbul, he worked as a bureaucrat and diplomat while also being active as a poet and playwright for about half a century from the Tanzimat period, the period when modern Turkish literature was established, to the Republic period. As a representative poet of modern Turkey, he built the foundations of modern Turkish poetry. His works include the poem collection "Tomb" (1885), the play "Finten" (1918), and many others. トルコの詩人，文学者。イスタンブールの学者の家系に生まれ，官僚，外交官としての勤務のかたわら，トルコ近代文学の成立期であるタンジマート期から共和国期にかけて約半世紀にわたり，詩人および劇作家として活躍し，とりわけ近代トルコの代表的詩人として，トルコ近代詩の基礎を築いた。作品に，詩集《墓》(1885)，戯曲《フィンテン》(1918)ほか多数がある。【鈴木董】
