A town in Sorachi County in central Hokkaido. It occupies the headwaters of the Sorachi River, and includes Karikachi Pass to the east and Mount Yubari to the west. The Nemuro Main Line runs through the town. It has extensive virgin forests and is a major producer of timber. The flat land and mountainous hills are used for farming, and dairy farming is also practiced. There is an artificial lake, Lake Kanayama. The town centre is Ikutora. Area: 665.54 km2 .
