Japan's central bank. Abbreviated as Bank of Japan. Headquarters in Tokyo. Founded in 1882. It is the only bank in Japan that issues banknotes (Bank of Japan notes), but is also a "government bank" that handles treasury funds, issues and redeems government bonds, and is also a "bank's bank" that deals with commercial financial institutions (accepting deposits, lending, buying and selling securities, etc.), and is responsible for monetary policy through interest rate policy and open market operations. It was originally a joint-stock company under the Bank of Japan Ordinance, but became a special corporation (capital of 100 million yen, 55% government investment) under the Bank of Japan Act in 1942, and in 1949 the Bank of Japan Policy Committee was established, strengthening its position as a central economic and financial institution. The governor and deputy governors are appointed by the Cabinet. The revised Bank of Japan Act, enacted in June 1997 (and effective in April 1998), included the centralization of authority in the Policy Committee and the promotion of information disclosure. The head office building was designed by Tatsuno Kingo and completed in 1896. →Bank of Japan payments→Related topicsBanks|May 15 Incident|National banks|Treasury funds|Shibusawa Keizo|Reserve deposit system|Specie|Takahashi Korekiyo|Collateral eligible bills|Special banks|Bank of Japan Tankan|Bank of Japan special loans|Hayami Yu|Window regulations|Mieno Yasushi|Preferential bills Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
