Mandibular breathing - science

This refers to breathing that sounds like gasping, with only the lower jaw moving up and down. It is seen during respiratory distress or agony. It indicates that the respiratory center has almost completely lost function, and is considered one of the signs that death is near.

下顎だけを上下させ、パクパクとあえぐような呼吸のこと。呼吸困難時や死戦期にみられる。呼吸中枢の機能がほぼ失われていることを示し、死期が近いことの徴候の一つとされている。
