Oreochromis mossambicus
A freshwater fish of the Cichlidae family in the Perciformes order. It grows to over 30 cm in length outdoors, but is around 20 cm in an aquarium. Its body is laterally compressed and has a long dorsal fin at the base. Its body color is mainly gray-brown with shiny silvery scales. The eggs are protected in the female's mouth and hatch there. This tropical fish was imported for food and ornamental purposes, and breeds naturally in hot spring ponds throughout Japan. Native to East Africa.

スズキ目カワスズメ科の淡水魚。野外では体長 30cmをこえるが,水槽内では 20cm内外。体は側扁し,基底の長い背鰭をもつ。体色は灰茶色を基調とし,銀色に光る鱗をもつ。卵は雌の口中で保護され,そこで孵化する。食用あるいは観賞用として輸入された熱帯魚で,日本各地の温泉地の池などで自然繁殖している。東アフリカ原産。
