Everyday life (English: vie quotidienne) (French)

It refers to the characteristics of steady, repetitive life processes, such as daily work, consumption, and family life, that have fundamental meaning for human survival and the maintenance of society. In general, it is a concept that is contrasted with "extraordinary," but in intellectual history, it has often been problematized in contrast to aesthetic and artistic creativity (or creative activities). It is also often seen as the sacred versus the secular, the hare versus the ke , or work versus play and festivals. Human life is impossible apart from everyday life, but on the other hand, everyday life, by its very nature, tends to be conservative and affirmative of the status quo. This has given rise to ambiguous value judgments about everyday life, with criticism of "immersion in everyday life" on the one hand and preaching of "emphasis on everyday life" and "restoration of everyday life" on the other. However, in recent years, there has been a growing tendency to suspend such value judgments for the time being and examine the structure and meaning of everyday life (or everyday life) itself from various academic fields.

日々の労働、消費、家族生活など、人間の生存と社会の維持にとって基本的な意味をもつ定常的、反復的な生活過程の特性をいう。一般論としては「非日常性」に対比される概念であるが、思想史的には、しばしば美的、芸術的な創造性（あるいは創造的な活動）との対比において問題とされてきた。あるいはまた、聖に対する俗として、ハレに対するケとして、遊びや祭りに対する労働としてとらえられる場合も少なくない。日常性を離れて人間の生活はありえないが、反面、日常性はその性質上、保守的、現状肯定的な傾向をもつ。ここから、日常性に対する両義的な価値判断が生じ、一方で「日常性への埋没」が批判されるとともに、他方で「日常性の重視」や「日常性の復権」が説かれることになる。しかし近年、そうした価値判断をいちおう保留して、日常性（あるいは日常生活）そのものの構造や意味をさまざまの学問領域から検討しようとする傾向が強まりつつある。
