Year of death: 1651 (Keian 4?) Year of birth: Unknown. A Heike biwa (Heikyoku) player in the early Edo period. His name was Koichi. Also known as Koichi. He was blind. He was a disciple of Yamanaka Hisakazu of the Ryushido school, and of Takayama Tanichi, who was also a disciple of Yamanaka Hisakazu. He established the Hatano school in opposition to Maeda Kyuichi, the founder of the Maeda school. His narration also incorporated the Yasaka school. Around the time of the Shoho and Keian eras (1644-52), he became the general inspector in charge of the Todo-za.
