A subject of Chinese painting. Also known as the "Goods Seller," "Baby Playing Goods," or "Goods Carrier." It depicts a peddler who carries around small items and toys for women and children. Other similar subjects include the water seller and the bird seller. It seems that this subject began to be depicted after the Song dynasty, when common people began to appear as subjects. A famous example is the Southern Song dynasty painter at the Painting Academy, Su Hanchen, and although there are some works that are attributed to him, most of the remains date from the Ming dynasty. A representative example is the work by Lu Wen'ing of the Ming dynasty (Tokyo National Museum, etc.). [Ebine Satoru] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
