Nita [town] - Nita
A former town in Nita District, eastern Shimane Prefecture. Occupying the upper reaches of the Hii River, the main settlement is Minari, where the Kisuki Line runs. It has long been a producer of Nita beef, and beef cattle fattening is thriving. Most of the area is forest, and shiitake mushrooms are also cultivated. It is home to Oni no Shitaburui, a scenic spot and natural monument. In March 2005, it merged with Yokota Town, Nita District, to become a town, forming Okuizumo City. Area: 178.64 km2 . Population: 8,768 (2003).
