Nita [town] - Nita

Japanese: 仁多[町] - にた

A former town in Nita District, eastern Shimane Prefecture. Occupying the upper reaches of the Hii River, the main settlement is Minari, where the Kisuki Line runs. It has long been a producer of Nita beef, and beef cattle fattening is thriving. Most of the area is forest, and shiitake mushrooms are also cultivated. It is home to Oni no Shitaburui, a scenic spot and natural monument. In March 2005, it merged with Yokota Town, Nita District, to become a town, forming Okuizumo City. Area: 178.64 ^km2 . Population: 8,768 (2003).

島根県東部，仁多郡の旧町。斐伊(ひい)川の上流域を占め，主集落は木次(きすき)線が通じる三成(みなり)。古くからの仁多牛の産地で，肉牛肥育が盛ん。大半が森林で，シイタケの栽培も行う。鬼の舌震(したぶるい)（名勝・天然記念物）がある。2005年３月仁多郡横田町と合併し町制，奥出雲市となる。178.64km²。8768人（2003）。
