A quadratic surface. In the Cartesian coordinate system O- xyz , it is expressed by the equation x2 / a2 + y2 / b2 + z2 / c2 = 1 ( a , b , c > 0). This surface is symmetric with respect to each of the yz , zx , and xy planes. When a = b = c , it becomes a sphere.
