A silver coin from the Edo period, worth 1/16 of a ryo. Two were minted in 1829 (Bunsei 12) and 1854 (Kaei 7). At first, they were made of high-quality silver and called Bunsei Nanryo Isshu Gin, but the value gradually deteriorated. At the time, one shu of silver was equivalent to 250 mon, and was also commonly called Odaiba, as it was paid as daily allowances to laborers at the batteries (batteries) built for coastal defense. From April 1868 to February 1869, inferior Isshu silver called Fukitsugi Isshu Gin was minted. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
