Kamezo Nishihara

Kamezo Nishihara
1873-1954 A businessman from the Meiji to Showa era.
Born June 3, 1873. In 1907, he established Kyoekisha in Korea and engaged in the sale of cotton products. He was involved in the China policy of the Terauchi Cabinet and promoted the provision of loans (Nishihara Loans) to the Duan Qirui government, but most of the loans were unrecoverable, drawing criticism from the public. From 1938 onwards, he promoted the rural improvement movement in his hometown of Kumohara Village, Kyoto Prefecture (Fukuchiyama City). He passed away on August 22, 1954, at the age of 81. His autobiography is titled "Seventy-odd Years of Dreams."

明治6年6月3日生まれ。40年朝鮮に共益社を設立,綿製品販売に従事。寺内内閣の中国政策に関与し,段祺瑞(だん-きずい)政権への借款(西原借款)供与を推進したが,大部分が回収不能となり,国民から非難をあびた。昭和13年以降は郷里の京都府雲原村(福知山市)で農村改良運動をすすめた。昭和29年8月22日死去。81歳。自伝に「夢の七十余年」。
