Imaichi [city] - Not so good

Japanese: 今市[市] - いまいち
Imaichi [city] - Not so good
An old city in central Tochigi Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. It occupies the eastern foot of the Nikko volcanic group and the alluvial fan of the Daiya River, a tributary of the Kinu River. The city center, located in the center of the alluvial fan, developed as a post town where the Nikko, Reiheishi, and Aizu roads leading to Nikko converge, and as a market town famous for its grain market. It borders Utsunomiya City to the northwest, and is served by the Nikko Line and the Tobu Nikko Line. It is one of the prefecture's leading timber distribution centers, and although lumber and woodworking were the main industries, electronics, chemicals, precision machinery, and other industries are expanding. A specialty product is incense made from the abundant cedar leaves. In rural areas, rice is the main crop, but the cultivation of tomatoes, cucumbers, and other crops in vinyl greenhouses is rapidly increasing. Along the old road to Nikko, there are over 13,000 Nikko cedar trees (special historic site/special natural monument). In March 2006, Ashio Town in Kamitsuga County, Fujiwara Town in Shioya County, and Kuriyama Village were incorporated into Nikko City. Area: 242.56 km2 . Population: 63,380 (2003).
