Bath additives - Yokuyozai

Japanese: 浴用剤 - よくようざい
Bath additives - Yokuyozai
These are non-medicinal products and medicines used when taking a bath. They are also called bath additives. They are not only effective in improving blood circulation, enhancing metabolic functions, and cleansing the skin, but also for moisturizing, keeping warm, relieving stress, and treating skin diseases, stiff shoulders, lower back pain, neuralgia, and rheumatism. Bath additives are generally broadly divided into those that are expected to have the effects of hot spring ingredients and those that are expected to have the effects of medicinal plant ingredients. The former contain inorganic salts such as sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), sodium sulfate (glaberrima), salt, and alum, while the latter contain ingredients such as touki (angelica), cnidium rhizome (Cnidium officinalis), littorales (glossum), peppermint leaves, and chamomile.
