Shorinzan Kofun

This keyhole-shaped tumulus from the early II period of the Kofun period is located in Shingai, Iwata City, Shizuoka Prefecture, at the southeastern edge of the Iwatahara Plateau. Its overall length is 110 meters, with a circular rear section 62 meters in diameter, 10.8 meters in height, 28 meters wide at the front end, 21 meters wide at the narrowest part, and 3 meters high at the front. An investigation was carried out in 1931 (Showa 6), and a pit-type stone chamber made of flattened subangular gravel and piled at the edge was discovered. The chamber is large, measuring 7.9 meters in length. The structure of the stone chamber, which can be divided into a front chamber and a rear chamber, has been the subject of much debate. Among the excavated artifacts are a bracelet made of oyster shells, stone products in the shape of a koto bridge, copperware in the shape of a Tomoe, two mirrors with floral patterns, a four-animal mirror, a triangular-rimmed mirror depicting two gods and two animals, as well as jewels, farm tools, arms, and weapons. It was designated a prefectural historic site in 1954 (Showa 29).

静岡県磐田(いわた)市新貝(しんがい)、磐田原台地の南東端にある古墳時代前Ⅱ期の前方後円墳。全長110メートル、後円部径62メートル、同高10.8メートル、前端部幅28メートル、くびれ部幅21メートル、前方部高3メートル。1931年（昭和6）に調査が行われ、扁平亜角礫(へんぺいあかくれき)小口積みの竪穴(たてあな)式石室が発見された。石室全長は7.9メートルと大型である。前室、後室に分けて考えることもできる石室の構造については、各所で論議がなされている。出土遺物には、スイジガイ製釧(くしろ)（腕輪）、琴柱(ことじ)形石製品、巴(ともえ)形銅器、内行花文(ないこうかもん)鏡2、四獣鏡、三角縁二神二獣鏡をはじめ、玉類、農工具、武具、武器など多数がある。1954年（昭和29）県史跡に指定された。
