...This psychological-physical causal relationship is a major part of what is known as the mind-body correlation. Horowitz introduced the term "stress response syndrome," which has a broad meaning and includes neuroses, psychogenic reactions, and mental illnesses other than psychosomatic disorders. Furthermore, when illness is caused by stress, the resulting illness can be more threatening to the individual than the threat that was the source of the stress, which makes stress even more significant.
