Zeno [of Elea] (English spelling)

Japanese: ゼノン[エレアの](英語表記)Zēnōn
Zeno [of Elea] (English spelling)
Ancient Greek philosopher, 490-440 BC. Born in the Greek colony of Elea in southern Italy. A disciple of Parmenides, the founder of the Elea school, Zeno defended his teacher's arguments with his own unique method of argument. In other words, he first accepted the argument of his opponent, and then indirectly refuted it by showing what contradictory conclusions arose from its premise. Thanks to this method of argument, Aristotle credits him with discovering dialectics. Today, Zeno's method of argument is known in two refutations of the many and four refutations of the verb.
