Naraya Ichiemon - Naraya Ichiemon

Japanese:
Naraya Ichiemon - Naraya Ichiemon
Year of birth: Year of birth and death unknown. The founder of the Edo town elders in the early Edo period. According to the history book, his ancestors were members of the Odate clan and lived in Nara in Yamato, but served Tokugawa Ieyasu when he lived in Mikawa. According to other historical sources, when Ieyasu visited Sakai during the Honnoji Incident in 1582, he crossed Iga and returned to Okazaki Castle, where Ogasawara Kotaro and others guarded the castle, and Ichiuemon is said to be their descendant. After Ieyasu entered the Kanto region in 1590, he was given a residence in Nihonbashi Honcho 1-chome, and as the head of three town elders, he was in charge of governing the town of Edo. For the next 12 generations, he was called Ichiuemon, but in 1834, he was allowed to use the surname Tate. <References> Yoshihara Kenichiro, "Machi-doshiyori" (Research on Edo Townspeople, Volume 4)
