...A π complex in which two benzene molecules are coordinated with π electrons in parallel to a chromium atom with an oxidation number of 0, it is a typical example of a sandwich compound (Figure). It was first created in 1955 by EO Fischer and his colleagues in Germany, and its unique structure, which is the same type as ferrocene, attracted attention and was one of the compounds that started the new field of structural chemistry. A mixture of anhydrous chromium chloride (III), aluminum powder, anhydrous aluminum chloride, and benzene was reacted under reduced pressure, and the reaction product was cooled while being isolated from the air, hydrolyzed with methyl alcohol and water, and reduced with benzene and sodium dithionite to obtain a diamagnetic black-brown cubic crystal. ...
