The Central African Federation, also known as the Central African Federation, was formed in 1953 when Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), which was a British colony in southern Africa, merged with Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) and Nyasaland (now Malawi). The idea of a unified North and South Rhodesia was proposed by white settlers in Southern Rhodesia during World War I for political reasons, as they rejected the idea of joining the Union of South Africa (now the Republic of South Africa).
