Niyālā (English spelling)

Japanese: ニヤーラー（英語表記）Niyālā

The capital of South Darfur Governorate in the western part of the Republic of Sudan. Population 229,000 (1993). A railway was laid in 1960, and the town is the terminus of a 2,117 km long line that runs from Port Sudan to Kassala. Livestock farming and agriculture are practiced in the surrounding area, and half of Sudan's meat is produced there. Camel and vegetable markets are held in the town, but they are small in scale. In 1976, a road to Zalingey, near the Chad border, was constructed with a yen loan from Japan. Jabal Marra (3,071 m), known for its beautiful greenery, is located about 60 km to the north.

スーダン共和国西部，南ダールフール県の県都。人口22万9000(1993)。1960年鉄道が敷かれ，ポート･スーダンからカッサラを経由する全長2117kmの終点となった。周辺地域では牧畜，農耕が行われ，スーダンの食肉の半分を生産する。町ではラクダ市，野菜市が開かれるが規模は小さい。76年日本からの円借款によりチャド国境に近いザリンゲイまでの道路が建設されている。北方約60kmにマッラ山Jabal Marra(3071m)があり，緑美しい山として知られている。
