Also known as canola. A general term for one- to two-year-old oilseed crops of the Brassicaceae family. It is said to be native to Europe and Siberia and includes several species. It prefers warm, fertile soil, but has a wide range of adaptability. It grows to a height of 80-150cm, with dozens of branches from each plant and thick, broad leaves. In spring, it produces flower stalks that bloom into racemes with many small yellow flowers. The fruit is long and slender, divided into two chambers inside, and contains 13-24 small, black-brown seeds. Rapeseed oil is extracted from the seeds, and the oil cake is rich in protein and can be used as feed or fertilizer. → Related article Sugukina Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
