A man of letters in the mid-Heian period. Grandson of Otondo and son of Tamabuchi. Koretoki was his cousin. He was called Go-E Shoko. After serving at Daigakuryo, he served mainly as a benkan (official official), during which time he was also appointed as a Doctor of Literature and rose to the rank of councilor. In 954 (Tenryaku 8), he became the head of the Senkokushisho (National History Office) and was involved in the compilation of the Shinkokushi (New National History). He reached the rank of Shoshii (Junior Fourth Rank), and died on December 28, the first year of the Tentoku era. A representative man of letters in the first half of the 10th century, he was active in submitting proposals for the era name, composing imperial edicts, petitions, and prefaces to poems, and made a great contribution to establishing the status of the Oe clan in the academic world. He was also an accomplished calligrapher. His works include "Go-Eso Kogyoshu" and "Wachū Setsūin", but they are lost. Many of his poems and prose remain in "Fusōshū", "Ruijū Kudaishō", "Honchō Monzui", and others. "Honchō Monzui" and "Wakan Roeishū" are the first and third most numerous anthologies, respectively, which shows that they were beloved in later times.
