A local poetry circle in the Kamakura period. It was one of the earliest local poetry circles, established after the Kamakura poetry circle. It began with the brothers Utsunomiya Yoritsuna (1172-1259), whose daughter was married to Fujiwara Tameie, and Tomonori (? -1248), known for his exchange of waka poetry with Minamoto no Sanetomo. Both became monks under Honen's tutelage, and took the names Rensho and Shinsho. The Ogura Hyakunin Isshu was originally composed of poems sent by Teika to Rensho for use in paintings on the shoji screens of his son Tameie's wife's mountain villa in Saga. The Shin Wakashu has 10 volumes and more than 870 poems. → Shinsho Hoshi Nikki Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
