Austronesian peoples - Austronesian peoples
Austronesian is a general term for peoples who speak languages belonging to the Austronesian or Malayo-Polynesian languages. Their distribution ranges from Easter Island in the east to Madagascar in the west, but their original homeland is thought to have been southern China or Taiwan. This is because Taiwanese languages, which are thought to have branched off the earliest among the Austronesian languages, are found in Taiwan, and Austroasiatic and Kadai languages, which are thought to be related to Austronesian languages, are found from southern China to Indochina.
