One of the ancient clans. The Takebe clan is distributed in Izumo, Mino, Owari, Totomi, Suruga, Sagami, Musashi, Shimousa, Kazusa, Hitachi, Kozuke, Shimotsuke, Etchu, Echizen, Sado, Echigo, and Mutsu, and is concentrated in the eastern part of Japan except for Izumo. The family names include Omi, Muraji, Miyatsuko, Nao, and Shishi, but Takebe no Omi is only found in Izumo and Kyoto. Those with the family names Muraji and Nao were likely local powerful clans in the eastern part of Japan, such as Chishiki (with the Muraji family name) who donated roof tiles to the abandoned Kamishinshu temple in Kawachi County, Shimotsuke Province, Dairyo (with the Nao family name) in Inhata County, Shimousa Province, and Kuni no Miyatsuko (with the Nao family name) from Adachi County, Musashi Province.
