Heat rays

…Infrared rays are electromagnetic waves characterized by their thermal action. When a material absorbs near-infrared rays, the thermal motion within the material is excited, causing the material to rise in temperature. For this reason, this part is sometimes called heat rays.

The spectra of molecular vibrations and lattice vibrations of crystals appear in the near-infrared to mid-infrared range, while the rotational spectra of light molecules appear in the far-infrared range.
