Haiku poet. Born in Tokyo. Real name Tama. Maiden name Yamatani. Married Hashimoto Toyojiro in 1917 (Taisho 6), and lived in Kokura afterwards. In 1922 (Taisho 11), she decided to pursue haiku poetry, and was taught by Sugita Hisajo. After "Hototogisu" and "Ashibi", she studied under Yamaguchi Seishi, and participated in the founding of "Tenro" as a member of the group. In 1948, she founded "Shichiyo". She has been called "a rare female writer who walks the path of a man", and she powerfully expresses her unique lamentation and sense of loneliness. Her haiku collections include "Sea Swallow" (1941), "Shinano" (1947), and "Koushi" (1951). [Takaha Kariyuki] When the firefly cage gets dark, the flames flicker and burn brightly.
