Japanese: 積率 - せきりつ（英語表記）moment

Also called a moment. In statistics _, it is used to measure the spread of frequency distributions and probability distributions and is useful for characterizing distributions. When observing _a variable X (for example, height) and obtaining a frequency distribution ₍ x1 , f1 ), ₍ x2 , f2 ), ..., _(xn , fn ), to measure the magnitude of the fluctuation of _the frequency distribution from a certain value a , we consider the quantity, where r is a positive integer, and call this the rth moment around a . When a = 0, it is simply called the rth moment. In particular, the first moment is called the mean, and the second moment around the mean is called the variance.

モーメントともいう。統計学で度数分布や確率分布の散布の大きさを測り，分布を特徴づけるのに役だつ。変量X(例えば身長)を観測して度数分布(x₁,f₁)，(x₂,f₂)，……，(x_n,f_n)が得られたとき，ある一定の値aからの度数分布の変動の大きさを測るのに，rを正の整数として，なる量を考え，これをaのまわりのr次の積率と呼ぶ。a＝0のときは単にr次の積率という。とくに一次の積率を平均値といい，平均値のまわりの二次の積率を分散という。
