...Population: 76,839 (1995). Located at a key point on the Tokaido road, the city has had the post towns of Kakegawa and Nitusaka in the city area since ancient times. The central city of Kakegawa was also a castle town, and commerce flourished, with kudzu cloth being produced as a specialty product.
