A perennial plant of the Primulaceae family (APG classification: Primulaceae). It spreads by extending thin underground stems, and often grows in colonies. The stem is 10 to 15 centimeters tall. The leaves are long and thin, about 5 centimeters long, and several of them grow alternately at the top of the stem, with the lower leaves being slightly smaller. In early summer, a thin stalk appears in the upper leaf axil, and a single flower about 2 centimeters in diameter opens upward. Two or three flowers grow on each plant, and the corolla is white and deeply divided into seven lobes, and the tip is sometimes bordered with a slightly pale pink color, hence the name Tsumatorisou. There are seven stamens, one pistil, and seven-lobed calyx. It grows in semi-shaded areas in forests, and is widely distributed in the subalpine zones of Hokkaido, Honshu north of the Chubu region, Shikoku, and cold regions of the Northern Hemisphere, including North America and Europe. The plant and flowers are cute, and it is popular among mountain plant lovers. It is grown in partial shade in summer. It is classified in the Atractylodes genus, but is sometimes included in the Lycoris genus. [Tsuneo Torii March 22, 2021] It grows in colonies in subalpine forests, and in June and July, it produces thin stalks in the upper leaf axils, and a single white flower opens upward.
