Nakatomi's residence guardian

Japanese: 中臣宅守 - なかとみのやかもり

Years of birth: unknown. A poet from the Nara period. In the catalogue of Volume 15 of the "Manyoshu," it is written that he was exiled when he married Sano Kayakami no Musume, a court lady of the Kurabe clan (possibly a court lady of the harem Kuranotsukasa), and was exiled to Echizen Province. The reason is thought to have been related to the political situation of the time, but it is also said that he broke the taboo by marrying Musume. In the general amnesty of June 740 (Tenpyo 12), it was stated that "there is no limit to pardon," so perhaps he was convicted after the general amnesty of February 740. It is highly likely that he returned to Kyoto after the general amnesty of September 740. He was expelled from the Imperial Court for his involvement in the Rebellion of Fujiwara no Nakamaro in 764 (Tenpyo Hoji 8) (an additional punishment that strips officials who have committed serious crimes of all their ranks and honors). The 40 poems in the Manyoshu are mostly exchanges between the protagonist and his daughter in the capital during his exile, but it is said that the editor (possibly Otomo no Yakamochi) reconstructed the 23 poems by the daughters, and the whole work has the flavor of a tragic love story.

奈良時代の歌人。『万葉集』巻15の目録に,蔵部の女孺(後宮蔵司の女官か)狭野茅上娘子を娶ったときに流罪に断ぜられたとあり,越前国に配流。原因は,時の政情に絡むかと推測されるが,禁を犯して娘子と結ばれたためともいう。天平12(740)年6月の大赦では「赦の限りに在らず」とされており,罪せられたのは同11年2月の大赦以後か。同13年9月の大赦で帰京した蓋然性が高い。天平宝字8(764)年藤原仲麻呂の乱に連座して除名(重罪の官人から位勲のすべてを剥奪する付加刑)。『万葉集』の40首は,配所での,都の娘子との贈答が主だが,娘子の23首をも含め,編者(大伴家持か)の手で再構成されたといわれ,全体が悲劇的な愛の物語の趣を呈する。<参考文献>吉井巌『万葉集全注/巻15』
