Treaty of Eikyou

Japanese: 永享条約 - えいきょうじょうやく

These are said to be the conditions of trade that the Ming applied to Japanese ships sent to Ming China after 1434 (Eikyō 6). As this year was the 9th year of the Xuande era of the Ming Dynasty, it is also known as the Xuande Summary. The contents of the document were: (1) ships sent to Ming China could send tribute once every 10 years, (2) the number of personnel was limited to 300, (3) the number of ships was limited to three, and (4) the number of swords carried was limited to 300. These were recorded in the Chinese works Chukaizuhen, Wangaxuehen, and Mingshi, but there is no historical evidence that these provisions were implemented after 1434, and they are thought to have been misconceived in later times.

1434年(永享6)以後に，明から日本の遣明船に対して適用された通交の条件といわれるもの。この年が明の宣徳9年にあたるところから，宣徳要約ともいわれる。内容は，(1)遣明船の入貢は10年に1回とする，(2)人員は300人に限る，(3)船数は3隻とする，(4)刀剣の積載量は300を限度とする，というものである。中国の《籌海図編（ちゆうかいずへん）》《吾学編》《明史》などに記されているものであるが，このような条項が1434年以後実施されたという歴史的事実はなく，後世になって誤想されたものとおもわれる。
