〘Noun〙 Another name for government paper money issued from 1881 to 1886. These paper money came in five denominations: 10 yen, 5 yen, 1 yen, 50 sen, and 20 sen. The 1 yen and above denominations had a portrait of Empress Jingu on them, so they were commonly called "Empress Jingu bills" or "Jingu bills," and because they had the chrysanthemum crest in the upper center of the front, they were also called "Chrysanthemum Emblem Paper Money." They were banned from circulation at the end of December 1859.
