Explanation of the Nakatomi Harae Kunge

Japanese: 中臣祓訓解 - なかとみのはらえくんげ

A book on Ryobu Shinto created in the Kamakura period. Nakatomi-harae refers to the Oharae no Kotoba (Great Purification Prayer) found in the Engishiki and Chono Gunzai, but towards the end of the Heian period it was also called Nakatomi-no-saimon (Nakatomi's Ritual Text) or Onakatomi-kyo (Great Nakatomi's Sutra), and was increasingly recited before the gods. Nakatomi-harae Chusho was first created as a commentary on it, and then this book appeared, which takes the standpoint of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism and preaches Ryobu Shinto in the form of a commentary on Nakatomi-harae. The editor is likely someone who had close ties to the Geku (Toyouke Daijingu) shrine officials who later preached Ise Shinto (Watarai Shinto).

鎌倉時代に作られた両部神道書。中臣祓は《延喜式》や《朝野群載》に収める大祓詞（おおはらえのことば）のことだが，平安末期は中臣祭文（なかとみのさいもん）とか大中臣経ともよばれて，神前で読誦される機会がふえた。その注釈書として《中臣祓注抄》がまず作られ，さらに真言密教の立場に立ち，中臣祓の注釈という形をとって両部神道を説く本書が現れた。編者はおそらく，やがて伊勢神道(度会（わたらい）神道)を唱える外宮（げくう）(豊受大神宮)祠官団と密接な関係にある者と推定される。
