[Died] February 20, 1951. Torkwe, Devonshire. British actor and theatre manager. He made his debut in America in 1884, returned to the United States in 1886, and achieved success in 1895 with the role of Drummel in The Second Mrs. Tanqueray. In later years he also appeared in films such as Peer Gynt. From 1896 to 1905 he was co-manager of the Haymarket Theatre, where he staged plays starring his wife Emery, and served as principal of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art for many years. His books include The Haymarket Theatre (1903) and Behind the Scenes with Cyril Maude (27).
